The Boeing Company’s Global Services & Support (GS&S) San Antonio business unit operates one of the largest military aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities in the world at Kelly Field.

The Boeing site was established in 1998 to provide high-quality, short cycle-time maintenance and modification center for large aircraft. Under a lease through Port San Antonio, the Boeing GS&S San Antonio site has established itself as a high performance, nationally-recognized facility.

Boeing San Antonio continues the legacy of aviation as an anchor tenant for Port San Antonio. The company utilizes over 1.6 million square feet of enclosed area, including 940,000 square feet of hangar space along with 3.5 million square feet of aircraft ramps, run-up areas, and parking pads. The hub of site operations is Building 375, which is the largest free-standing, high-bay aircraft hangar in the world and can accommodate up to 15 wide-body aircraft at a time. Capabilities at the licensed Federal Aviation Administration Repair Station include facilities for paint and de-paint non-destructive inspection, drop-in maintenance, logistics support, and corrosion control, as well as back shops and office space.

After more than a decade as a military maintenance, overhaul and repair center, Boeing San Antonio is now supporting commercial aviation. The first commercial aircraft, the 787 Dreamliner, arrived on March 4, 2011 for the site to perform change incorporation and refurbishment work. It was then followed by the 747-8 Freighter on May 11, 2011.

The Boeing facility’s first aircraft, a C-17 Globemaster III, arrived for modification in August 1998. Maintenance and modification programs at the San Antonio facility include the C-17 Globemaster III Sustainment Partnership (GSP), the KC-135 Programmed Depot Maintenance (PDM), the KC-135 Global Air Traffic Management (GATM), the 787 Dreamliner Change Incorporation and Refurbishment, and the 747-8 Change Incorporation and Refurbishment. In 2014, the company’s Port San Antonio site also became the MRO hub for the U.S. government’s Executive Fleet, which includes aircraft flown by the President, his cabinet members and other top-ranking federal officials.

Customers continue to acknowledge, and even benchmark, strong program performance. Maintaining the viability of the Boeing San Antonio facility is in the best interests of Boeing customers, including the U.S. government, U.S. taxpayer, Boeing commercial airplanes, and our warfighters.
