The future of space exploration was recently on full display at the Lunar Caves Analog Test Sites (LCATS) Lunar Activity Showcase, where students demonstrated the creativity, technical skills, and innovation they developed throughout the program.
Families and community members gathered at the Boeing Center at Tech Port to experience an exciting lineup of student-driven projects and interactive exhibits, including NASA-inspired rover simulations, a student-designed lunar video game, a full-scale lunar habitat model, live vacuum chamber demonstrations, and high-altitude balloon launches into near-space.

Through these hands-on experiences, students showcased their ability to apply science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) concepts to real-world challenges inspired by lunar exploration.
The event celebrated the achievements of the next generation of explorers while giving attendees an up-close look at the cutting-edge projects shaping the future of STEM. It also highlighted the lasting impact of the LCATS program, which was founded by the WEX Foundation in 2016 to inspire young people to pursue careers in space exploration and related fields.

Since its launch, the LCATS program, which is supported by NASA, has provided hundreds of San Antonio students with unique opportunities to explore the challenges and possibilities of space exploration through hands-on STEM education. For many participants, the experience has served as a springboard to advanced studies and future careers in technical and scientific fields.
Through the vision of the WEX Foundation and the generous support of the Kelly Heritage Foundation, LCATS continues to open doors for young people, empowering them to dream big, think boldly, and pursue the innovations that will define tomorrow.


NOTE: The high-altitude balloon launches were coordinated with the U.S. Air Force, which operates the nearby runway at Kelly Field, and the FAA. The public should not attempt similar activities on the Port San Antonio campus, including use of drones, kites, model rockets, model airplanes or other flying objects, without prior clearance and coordination with necessary authorities.
