Port San Antonio is once again providing a big facility and utilities to this year’s Elf Louise Christmas Project.
The large space, located at 333 Morris Witt St., will be used during the holiday season to store and distribute thousands of gifts provided by area residents. The donated items will include various types of toys and games.
“The Port San Antonio location is an incredible asset to our organization,” said Elf Louise Executive Director, Karen Gordon. “The Port’s facilities provide the space, accessibility, and security we need to efficiently organize and operate during the busy holiday season — especially when so many volunteers come together to wrap gifts for the children.”
“We’re also ideally situated within just a few miles of many of the families we serve through the Elf Louise Christmas Project,” Gordon added. "We couldn't fulfill our mission without the generous and integral support of Port San Antonio year after year.”
Volunteers will occupy the space from November to January and will help unpack, stock and distribute the gifts. Approximately 4,500 volunteers are assisting the Elf Louise initiative this year.
Founded in 1969 by Trinity University student Louise Locker, the Elf Louise Christmas Project works annually in conjunction with thousands of big-hearted South Texans, who donate their time and resources to help less-fortunate children who might otherwise be forgotten. This year, the organization is expected to spread its cheer to approximately 17,500 children from over 5,400 area families.
